Why Most People Stay Stuck (It's Not a Motivation Problem)

June 30, 2026 · Allison Santana

For a long time, I thought I had a motivation problem.

Every Monday felt like a fresh start. I would make a new plan, buy a new notebook, watch a few inspiring videos, and tell myself, "This is the week everything changes."

Then life would happen.

Work got busy. The kids needed something. The house felt overwhelming. I'd miss a day, then another, and before I knew it, I was convincing myself I just wasn't disciplined enough.

I think a lot of us believe that story.

We assume the people building businesses, getting healthy, paying off debt, or changing their lives simply woke up with more motivation than the rest of us.

I don't think that's true anymore.

I think most people stay stuck because they're waiting to feel different before they start acting differently.

The problem is that feelings are unreliable. I know this firsthand, because I spent all of 2025 a victim to my feelings. Literally making myself sick believing every bad narrative I had about myself.

Some mornings you'll wake up ready to take on the world. Other mornings you'll question everything you've been working toward. If your progress depends on how motivated you feel that day, you're handing your future over to your emotions.

That is a risky place to be.

I've been on my content and affiliate marketing journey for about two years now and I’ve started noticing something about the people who consistently make progress.

They don't seem obsessed with motivation.

They're obsessed with making the next step easier.

Instead of relying on willpower, they create systems.

Instead of asking, "How can I push myself harder?" they ask, "How can I make this harder to avoid?"

That question changed the way I think.

It made me realize that the goal isn't to become a different person overnight.

The goal is to become the kind of person who makes one good decision a little more often than yesterday.

That could mean laying your workout clothes out the night before.

Keeping healthy food where you'll actually see it.

Writing down content ideas the moment they come to you instead of trusting your memory.

Setting up automatic savings so you're building wealth even when you're not thinking about it.

None of those things are exciting.

They probably won't go viral on social media.

But they work.

We've been taught to chase dramatic transformations because they make great headlines.

"How I Changed My Life in 30 Days."

"What I Learned After Making My First Million."

Those stories are inspiring, but they often skip the thousands of ordinary decisions that made the outcome possible.

Real life rarely changes in one big moment.

It changes in quiet moments that nobody claps for you.

A decision to keep going after a bad day.

A choice to prepare instead of procrastinating.

A habit repeated long enough that it starts to feel like part of who you are.

When I look back at the biggest changes in my own life, none of them started with motivation.

They started with a decision.

Then another.

Then another.

Not because I suddenly became more confident.

Not because I finally had everything figured out.

Simply because I stopped waiting for motivation to show up before I took the first step.

If you've been feeling stuck lately, maybe you don't need another motivational video.

Maybe you don't need another planner.

Maybe you don't need to become a completely different person.

Maybe you just need one small system that makes tomorrow a little easier than today.

That might not feel like much.

But those small decisions have a way of becoming a completely different life before you even realize it's happening. xo -allison
