TikTok Shop Affiliate Program Explained: How It Works, Why I Like It, and How You Can Get Started

June 30, 2026 · Allison Santana

If you had told me a few years ago that people were making money by recommending products on TikTok, I probably would have laughed. I thought I was too old to be on TikTok, first of all! Now I laugh thinking about all the preconceived notions I had about the app.

Now it's one of the most exciting opportunities I've come across as a content creator.

What's funny is that most people still think you have to be an influencer with millions of followers to make money online.

You don't.

Do you need to put in the work?

Absolutely.

Do you need to learn how to make content people actually want to watch?

Without a doubt.

But you don't need celebrity status.

So, What Is TikTok Shop Affiliate?

TikTok Shop Affiliate is a program that allows creators to earn a commission when someone buys a product through one of their TikTok videos or LIVE streams. Instead of sending people to another website, shoppers can buy the product directly inside the TikTok app, making the entire experience quick and seamless. Sellers list products, creators choose what they want to promote, and commissions are automatically tracked when a qualifying sale is made.

Think of it like this.

You find a product you genuinely like.

You make a video showing how you use it or why you think it's useful.

Someone watches your video, buys the product through your link, and you earn a commission.

The customer doesn't pay anything extra. The seller pays you because your content helped generate the sale.

Why I Chose TikTok Shop

I've looked at several affiliate programs over the years.

Amazon is great.

Individual brand partnerships can be great too.

But TikTok feels different.

Instead of trying to convince people to leave the app and visit another website, everything happens in one place.

People discover.

They watch.

They buy.

That creates a smoother experience for everyone.

More importantly, TikTok rewards interesting content.

I've seen creators with relatively small audiences get videos in front of hundreds of thousands of people because the video itself was engaging.

That's one of my favorite things about the platform.

I also love that I can send my links to whoever I want without being penalized. Not all affiliate programs are built alike (cough, cough, Amazon)

How Do You Actually Make Money?

There isn't just one way.

Some creators make product demonstrations.

Others create tutorials.

Some make funny skits.

Others share before-and-after transformations.

Personally, I like telling stories.

Instead of saying, "Here's a blender."

I'd rather explain why I bought it, what problem it solved, or how it's become part of my daily routine.

People remember stories far more than product specifications.

Then you add your product link and hit post!

The Perks

There are quite a few reasons creators are excited about TikTok Shop.

You don't need inventory.

You're not buying hundreds of products and storing them in your garage.

The seller handles inventory and shipping.

No customer service.

If someone has a shipping issue or needs a refund, the seller manages that.

Products are already available.

Thousands of products are available inside the affiliate marketplace, so you don't have to spend months finding companies to work with.

Free product samples.

Many sellers offer free samples or refundable samples to creators in exchange for content. We’ll talk about the difference another time.

That means you can test products before recommending them.

Not every request gets approved, but it's a nice perk when it happens.

The algorithm can surprise you.

Unlike some platforms where your reach depends heavily on follower count, TikTok often pushes content based on viewer interest and engagement. That's one reason brands are increasingly working with smaller creators who have authentic content and engaged audiences.

How Do You Apply?

The application process is fairly straightforward.

In the United States, creators generally need to:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Live in a supported country.

  • Complete identity verification.

  • Have a TikTok account that meets the platform's eligibility and compliance requirements.

Many creators also enter through the standard affiliate application process once they meet the required account criteria. Requirements can change over time, so it's always worth checking TikTok's latest guidance before applying.

Then there are 2 tiers of the program. There’s the pilot program, where you need 1k follower minimum and the standard program you can be accepted into at 5k followers. Both have different perks.

Once approved, you'll gain access to the affiliate marketplace where you can browse products, request samples, and start creating content.

Some Interesting Facts

One thing I think people underestimate is how quickly social commerce is growing.

Industry analysts expect TikTok Shop's U.S. e-commerce business to exceed $23 billion in sales during 2026, which shows just how seriously both brands and creators are taking the platform.

Another interesting shift is that brands aren't only chasing creators with huge audiences anymore.

Many companies are actively looking for everyday creators because audiences often see them as more relatable and trustworthy.

That means your biggest advantage might not be having more followers.

It might be being more authentic.

Is It Easy Money?

No.

I think that's important to say.

You'll probably make videos that flop.

You'll recommend products that never sell.

You'll wonder why someone else's video took off while yours barely got views.

That's normal.

Like any business, it takes consistency.

The creators you see earning thousands of dollars usually have dozens or even hundreds of videos working for them.

They've learned what their audience responds to by showing up over and over again.

There is lots to learn about hooking people in, winning attention and closing a potential sale. There’s also learning the fundamentals of video quality. And once you get more seasoned, buy psychology.

Why I Talk About It

One thing I want people to know is that I don't sell an affiliate marketing course.

I'm not here to convince you that this is some overnight success story.

I simply enjoy talking about something that's genuinely changed the way I think about creating content.

If you're curious, I'll gladly share what's working for me, what's not working, and what I'm learning along the way.

In fact, most of what I've learned has come from TikTok itself.

I've spent countless hours watching creators openly explain their strategies, testing ideas for myself, and paying attention to what actually works instead of chasing shortcuts.

If you're willing to stay curious, experiment, and keep showing up, TikTok Shop can become much more than a place to scroll.

It can become a place to build a real income stream, one piece of content at a time. xo-allison
